New Tricky Matters booklet on Public Sector now available

Vrs Vericlaim has published its latest Tricky Matters booklet on the Public Sector. This is the seventh in the series of practical publications designed to raise awareness on common insurance coverage and claims issues. The booklets help stimulate discussion and also encourage reviews on current policy cover arrangements.

Written by Damian Glynn, vrs Vericlaim’s Head of Financial Risks,  the booklet covers 16 of the more common themes likely to create issues when claims are made by organisations operating in the public sector.  From inadequate sums insured on listed buildings to lack of clarity on the extent of cover for security costs after an event, the booklet highlights the need to ensure organisations have adequate cover in place prior to claims arising in order to avoid “nasty surprises”.

Sedgwick-owned specialist loss adjuster vrs Vericlaim is developing its TPA and commercial loss adjusting capability with the acquisition of Certo. Established in 2002, Certo has 70 staff operating from offices in Leeds, Birmingham, Glasgow and Brentwood. The acquisition will increase the number of vrs Vericlaim staff to over 200 and take annual revenue to around £17.5m.

Stewart Steel, managing director of vrs Vericlaim, said:

“Like vrs Vericlaim, Certo is a leader in the handling of corporate and commercial claims and we are delighted that David Harrison and his colleagues have agreed to join our growing business. Our two companies share the same heritage and our management teams have always had immense mutual respect for one another.

“In addition to providing a first class, traditional loss adjusting service, Certo has developed a successful TPA operation and is a highly valued partner to leading players in the London market. The expansion of our current TPA capabilities sits perfectly with future Vericlaim and Sedgwick development plans.”

Following the acquisition, David Harrison will become Managing Director of the new Vericlaim TPA business  – which will operate under the Certo name – reporting to Stewart Steel.

On behalf of Certo, David Harrison added:

“This is a great opportunity for our staff and clients. Certo and Vericlaim share the same customer focused ethos and the merger creates a compelling offering for existing and new clients with niche or higher capacity technical claims handling requirements.”

Stewart Steel, vrs Vericlaim Managing Director, would be happy to answer any questions you may have about any aspects of this deal or the company’s future plans for growth. You can contact Stewart on +44 (0)20 7709 4023.

Rated as the strongest Eastern North Pacific hurricane on record , the category five hurricane is expected to make landfall on Friday afternoon or evening, with winds of 200mph (325km/h). The hurricane is comparable with Typhoon Haiyan, which killed 6,300 people in the Philippines in 2013, the World Meteorological Organization says.
Patricia has maximum sustained winds recorded at 200mph. It is forecast to bring rainfall of between 15 and 30cms and, according to The National Hurricane Centre in the US,
the impact of Patricia is “potentially catastrophic”.

A state of emergency has been declared in three states in Patricia’s path and Mexican authorities have begun evacuating residents ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Patricia.
The cities of Manzanillo and Puerto Vallarta are expected to be badly affected. Both are mid-sized cities with a moderate exposure of commercial and leisure (hotels) risks.
